This Sunday, October 27, an important health event for the Latino community and other minorities in Cleveland, Ohio, took place at 787 Market & Café. The event, centered around early breast cancer detection, was organized by Janet Ruiz, a breast cancer survivor and founder of the nonprofit organization “Her2cancervive.”
With support from MetroHealth and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), the event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of early detection, especially considering that, according to statistics, one in every eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives. The collaboration of 787 Market & Café as one of the sponsors was essential in making this community initiative possible.
A significant highlight of the event was that many women were able to access free mammograms for the first time, thanks to services provided by MetroHealth. This represents an important step forward in healthcare for the Latina community and other minorities in Cleveland, who often lack access to preventive screenings.
Janet Ruiz expressed her gratitude to the participants and sponsors, reaffirming her commitment to advocating for prevention and education on breast cancer in underserved communities. Her work remains a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection in the fight against this disease.
